What Pitch Black actually is

The short version

Pitch Black released 17 July 2026 from the Japanese Abyss Eye set. At 120 cards it is the smallest Mega Evolution expansion, continuing a steady shrink across the series from 188 down to 120 while the secret count has held at 36 since Phantasmal Flames.

Mega Darkrai ex takes first and second as expected. The more interesting number is third: Morpeko ex at around $94. At 43 percent of the top card that is a genuinely worthwhile third pull, though the base set and Ascended Heroes both spread value wider still.

Sealed is also the widest gap in the series between box and loose packs. A booster box runs about $37 less than the same 36 packs bought individually, the biggest discount the Mega era has offered.

The best sealed value in the series

A booster box here runs about $37 under the cost of 36 loose packs, the widest discount of any Mega Evolution set.
