What Chaos Rising actually is

The short version

Chaos Rising released 22 May 2026, adapted from the Japanese Ninja Spinner set. Greninja fronts both printings, and unlike most Mega sets the market agrees with the marketing without reservation.

What makes it structurally different is how tight the top two are. The Special Illustration Rare at $198 and the Mega Hyper Rare at $173 are within about $26 of each other, both of them Mega Greninja ex. Every other Mega set has a clear single best card; this one effectively has two, which gives you a choice about which version to chase rather than a single expensive target.

Below that it drops off quickly. Cinccino ex at $62 is the only non-Greninja card above $50, and the rest of the secret pool sits under $40.

Where it came from

Japanese source set

English Mega Evolution sets are assembled from Japanese releases rather than translated one to one, which is why card counts and numbering shift between the two.

Ninja Spinner (M4)

Japan · spring 2026

Named for Mega Greninja, who fronts both the Japanese and English printings.

Two chases, not one

The gap between first and second here is about 15 percent. In Pitch Black it is 28 percent, in Phantasmal Flames it is 130 percent. If you want a Mega Greninja ex you get to pick which one on price, which is unusual for the series and slightly softens the cost of chasing the set.

At $5.54 a pack, 36 loose packs come to $199.44. A sealed box is $183.16, so the box is about $16.28 cheaper.

The discount here is the smallest of the sets that offer one, so the case for buying sealed rests on wanting the Greninja rather than on the maths.
