Brilliant Stars is the ninth main Sword & Shield expansion, released February 25, 2022. It introduced Pokemon VSTAR, led by Arceus and Charizard VSTAR, each with a VSTAR Power you can use only once per game, and it was the first set with a Trainer Gallery, 30 cards that show a Pokemon with its trainer. The main set has 172 numbered cards and 14 secret rares, 186 in all, and the gallery brings it to 216. Charizard V alternate full art (154/172) is the chase card, at $271.51 in market prices on Oct 29, 2026. It came after Fusion Strike and before Astral Radiance.
A complete Brilliant Stars master set contains 340 cards: the 216 cards in the set plus 124 reverse holos. Only commons, uncommons, rares and holo rares come in reverse holo. See the full checklist and cost to finish.

216. The main set is numbered to 172, 14 secret rares are numbered 173 to 186 (8 rainbow rares and 6 gold cards), and the Trainer Gallery adds 30 more, numbered TG01 to TG30. A complete master set is 340 cards: all 216, Trainer Gallery included, plus 124 reverse holos, one for every common, uncommon, rare and holo rare.
Charizard V alternate full art (154/172), at $271.51 in market prices on Oct 29, 2026, nearly three times the next card. Five Trainer Gallery cards follow: Umbreon VMAX (TG23) at $95.55, Mimikyu V (TG16) at $79.82, Mimikyu VMAX (TG17) at $72.28, Umbreon V (TG22) at $69.83 and Sylveon V (TG14) at $69.17. The best of the rest is the Arceus V alternate art (166/172) at $59.45. See the full Brilliant Stars chase card ranking for today's prices.
A 30-card subset, numbered TG01 to TG30, of mostly full art cards that show a Pokemon with its trainer. Brilliant Stars was the first set to have one, and Astral Radiance, Lost Origin and Silver Tempest each got their own. Gallery cards come in the same booster packs, in place of the reverse holo, and each has only one version. Six of the set's ten most valuable cards are gallery cards: on Oct 29, 2026, Umbreon VMAX (TG23) was $95.55 in market prices, Mimikyu V (TG16) $79.82 and Sylveon VMAX (TG15) $64.21.
Five. Charizard V (017/172) and Charizard VSTAR (018/172) are the regular cards, Charizard V also comes as a full art (153/172) and an alternate full art (154/172), and Charizard VSTAR has a rainbow secret rare (174/172). There is no gold Charizard; the gold VSTAR in this set is Arceus (184/172). On Oct 29, 2026 the alternate art was $271.51 in market prices, the rainbow VSTAR $57.73 and the full art V $30.82.
No one has published a large pack-opening study for Brilliant Stars. One community count of 1,004 packs found a Trainer Gallery card in about 1 in 8 packs, roughly four or five per 36-pack booster box, but it mixes the site's own pulls with outside data, so treat it as a rough guide. In that count the Charizard alt art turned up once and the rainbow Charizard VSTAR not at all, so nobody has a reliable figure for one card. A sealed box was $537.43 on Oct 29, 2026; see the Brilliant Stars sealed product page for today's prices.
February 25, 2022, as the ninth main expansion of the Sword & Shield series. It came after Fusion Strike and before Astral Radiance. It is built mostly from the Japanese set Star Birth, plus cards from Start Deck 100 and the character rares of VMAX Climax, which became its Trainer Gallery.
